Jim Horton studied with Robert Ashley at the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College. He co-founded the League of Automatic Music Composers, is a member of RotaLeague, and a founding member of Just Intonation Network and the Cactus Needle Project. He is compiling texts toward a history of experimental music in northern California and since 1976, he has created interactive real-time computer music.
