Biography

b. Chad Simpson, 1 June 1974, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Simpson grew up within the reggae industry and drew help as well as inspiration in his burgeoning career from the likes of Big Youth, Yellowman, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and General Degree. In 1996, he recorded the chart-topping ‘Fudgie’, which also featured Lady Saw and Hawkeye on the 12-inch disco mix. A hit in Jamaica and the US, it led to a series of singles including ‘Don’t Talk’, ‘How You Bless’ and ‘Dog Bark’. Goofy’s association with Danny Browne’s Main Street Crew led to him recording in combination with Red Rat, initially on ‘Big Man Little Yute’ for Studio 2000, which topped the reggae charts worldwide. The duo followed their success with ‘Cruise’. The Main Street Crew made their UK debut at the 1997 Notting Hill Carnival in London, featuring the trio of Red Rat, Goofy and Hawkeye. Scheduled to appear on both the Radio One and Kiss FM stages, the trio’s arrival caused a crushing surge towards the stage, an incident grossly exaggerated in the national press. Goofy continued to produce hits, including ‘Brush Yu Teeth’ and ‘Bad Man Fearless’. Several of his hit singles were included on his debut set, I Don’t Give A Damn!!
