Singer/songwriter Jason Simon, guitarist and vocalist for brooding Washington D.C. psych rock outfit Dead Meadow, launched a solo career in 2010. Sparser and more intimate than his work with Dead Meadow, Simon’s atmospheric, nocturnal country-folk filled the eponymous debut and owes more to Bert Jansch, Townes Van Zandt, and Sandy Bull than it does Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer. SInce then Simon has expanded his love of the stranger sides of Old Americana, all the while infusing it with his unique brand of cosmic psychedelia and eastern influenced drones. His singular guitar playing has remained a constant while an electrified droning banjo has dominated some tracks from "Familliar Haunts" and "A Venerable Wreck". "Hindsight 2020", a record of mostly covers, was created leisurely over the quiet months of 2020's lockdown, and most notably features covers of The Gun Club's "Mother of Earth" and Tom Petty's "Crawling Back to You". "To the Dream Center". a soundtrack for a yet to be created dystopian thriller, is Simon's latest release. It is a record of droning and symphonic soundscapes and marks another step in a long but far from over exploration of sound.
