What happens when you combine the ferocious energy of a rock drummer from one of Australia’s foremost punk bands with the refined artistry of one of the country’s leading string quartets? The result is a powerful fusion of cinematic soundscapes, compassionate grief, and flights of energy that define an original Australian voice. Richard Lawson first gained recognition as the explosive, hard-hitting drummer for the ARIA-nominated punk band Lime Spiders. His career has since evolved into a multi-instrumental journey spanning over 25 recordings across genres including electronica, folk, soundtracks, and ambient music. Now, in his first fully fledged classical music endeavour, he collaborates with the acclaimed Acacia Quartet, creating works that explore the depths of the human experience. In January 2025, Lawson’s composition "On Love Lost Days" was featured on the Australian Art Music playlist in Limelight, performed by the Acacia Quartet. The piece reflects his hallmark style: a fusion of emotional depth, Australian cultural identity, and cinematic narrative. Upcoming Work Picture yourself in the opulent Belle Époque era, where the spirits of Ravel, Debussy, Philip Glass, and Vivaldi intermingle. This atmosphere defines Lawson’s forthcoming album, “How to Read a City: Your Place of Last Resort,” based on poems by Australian author and musician Elizabeth Walton. Performed by the Acacia Quartet, the album is set for release in May 2025
