I made a new record. It’s called All My Friends. Initially a commission in honor of the passage of the 19th Amendment, I started writing this in the fall of 2020: it’s the sister songburst to Age of Apathy. Songs about suffrage and struggle. Songs about being a mother. Songs about looking back, and songs about looking forward. Heavy shit! I was really inspired by the life and words of Carrie Chapman Catt, a president of the National Woman Suffrage Association, and founder of the League of Women Voters. You can hear shades of her letters and speeches in these songs. It took 3 years to create this album, and I’m humbled by all the contributors who shared their deep musicianship and big hearts. My hope is that you listen to these songs with an open heart and mind. We need to listen, not just to music, but to each other. The woman’s hour is now. xo Aoife
