I was born in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, descended from people who lived in most parts of what folks in the USA call 'The South.' Most of my forbears (that I know of) trace back to Western Europe and the British Isles, having arrived in North America 250 or more years ago. I recently learned I have DNA from Senegambia & Guinea. I live now in Western Canada, but my roots always seem to seek the deep soul-water of my ancestral lands, expressed in music. I sing, write songs, play guitar, banjo, fiddle, and National steel guitar. My music is 'old-time', bluegrass, blues, gospel, and all these mixed together. From 2005-2008 I played in a bluegrass band called Widow Maker; we made a pretty great CD called The Awful Truth in 2007. In 2010 I released a solo album called Rise Above, that I'm most proud of. Now, in 2023, my 23-year-old daughter Bella White is making a splash with her albums Just Like Leaving and Among Other Things. Bella's music is "...sublime Appalachian heartbreak", according to Rolling Stone Country. The Recording Academy / Grammy Awards called her "a songwriting prodigy and emotional alchemist."
