Biography

Recognized as one of the most inventive avant-rock bands around, French band Aquaserge have been a subterranean driving force in the international music scene, inspiring and influencing countless musicians & fans. Founded in Toulouse by three friends (Julien Barbagallo, Julien Gasc & Benjamin Glibert), the band first operated like a a kind of nebula, a shifting aggregate drawing over 60 musicians in its orbit, while knitting an extended web of connections by collaborating with the likes of Tame Impala, Stereolab, Chassol, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Acid Mothers Temple and Aksak Maboul, as well as the new experimental pop French scene which they inspired (a.o. Moodoïd and Forever Pavot). The band has now distilled down to a strong 5-piece core, which is wildly creative in the studio, powerful and exciting on the stage. With its shades of vintage French film music, psych rock and free jazz, Aquaserge’s hyper- imaginative sound also draws from sources as diverse as pop, noise, experimental rock from the 1960s and ‘70s (think kraut to Canterbury to ZNR et al), all ingested and playfully transmuted into their own, unique, cinematographic sound. Typically, bold instrumental excursions, intriguing harmonies and lovely pop melodies often alternate within the same Aquaserge song. Their lyrics are as fun as their music, and generally possess a dense political & poetic subtext (quality translations into English are always provided in the physical formats of the albums). New album out now!
