Born in Kinshasa, KONGO BOI is a visionary who fuses Hip Hop and Afrobeat to create an elegant blend of flirtatious memoirs and the navigation of rediscovering Congolese identity. During his early life, his family bounced between DRCongo and the UK, introducing him to a wide variety of family traditions, culture, and lifestyles. At the same time as Congo’s historic first democratic election, he found his appetite for writing lyrics to mainstream music such as Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, YMCMB, Sexion D’Assaut, Busta Rhymes, Papa Wemba, Big Sean and reimagining the songs as his own. Returning to the UK in 2014, KONGO BOI embarked on a journey to build his career and establish himself as an artist. Through his passionate ventures, he made a name for himself in Crawley, West Sussex and supported Hopsin for his 2018 tour in Brighton. In 2021 he moved to London to embark on the next stage of his career, focusing on expanding his network and establishing himself among his peers on the international scene. In November 2021 he released ‘Impressions’, a romantic track describing the action of making a good first impression to someone you desire. ‘My aim is to push Linglish so to the world and display how diverse Congolese people can be outside of Rumba, Sebene and Ndombolo. But doing it in a way where it’s recognisable and digestible by English speakers and everyone else. I want to show people that you don't always have to be a French speaking Congolese artist to represent Congo.’
