Led by renowned trumpeter Terell Stafford, the Temple University Jazz Band is part of one of the leading collegiate jazz programs in the country. The group has six albums on the BCM&D Records label: Without You, No Me: (2021); COVID Sessions: A Social Call (2020); Strike Up the Band (2016); Dear Dizzy (2015); Big Swing Face (2013); To Thad with Love (2011). With the university’s Symphony Orchestra as the Temple University Studio Orchestra, they recorded 2020's two-time Grammy-nominated album Constant Renaissance (Vince Mendoza) and 2017’s Luck Be a Lady: A Tribute to Frank. Appearances include performances at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Performances have included appearances with John Faddis, Frank Wess, Clark Terry, Joe Wilder, Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Karrin Allyson and Freddy Cole. In 2020, the band placed first at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Inaugural Jack Rudin Jazz Championship, and second place performances at the second and third competitions. The Temple University Jazz Band has appeared at festivals across the U.S., including the Mellon/PSFS Jazz Festival, International Association of Jazz Educators Conferences, East Coast Jazz Festival, Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conferences, Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival and Detroit International Jazz Festival. The band has toured to Germany and Amsterdam.
