Alan Clark, pianist, keyboard player and producer, was born in England in 1952. He was the original and main keyboard player for Dire Straits, the band with which he was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. In 1980, shortly before the band recorded the “Making Movies" album, he became the main keyboard player for Dire Straits. Together with Mark Knopfler, he played on Bob Dylan’s “Infidels” album, which Knopfler also produced, and the following “Empire Burlesque”. He also worked with Knopfler on some movie soundtracks, like “Local Hero”, in which he has a cameo as a pianist. He has recorded and toured with Eric Clapton, in concerts with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and with Michael Kamen in his 24 nights at the Royal Albert Hall, in 1990 and 1991. During those same year he was musical director for Tina Turner, and arranged her “Private Dancer” album. Subsequently, he recorded and toured with a vast and eclectic series of artists, like the Bee Gees, Jimmy Nail, Escape Club, Joan Armatrading, Gerry Rafferty, Mick Hucknall, Bill Wyman, Sting, Van Morrison, Sly and Robbie, Shakin Stevens, Roger Daltrey, George Harrison, Elton John, Phil Collins and Bruce Willis. 2021 marks the release of his solo disc, “Backstory”, on Ponderosa Records.
