Josh Caterer is best known as lead singer and guitarist for legendary Chicago pop-punk band Smoking Popes, who burst onto the scene in 1991 with a unique blend of buzzsaw guitars, caffeinated rhythms, and heartfelt crooning vocals, bringing them commercial success as well as critical acclaim. Along the way, Caterer 's solo projects have explored a variety of genres, including blues and gospel, with the same emotional honesty which has defined his songwriting for the Popes. His newest album, The Hideout Sessions, stands as a powerful and highly listenable document of Caterer stretching out with a new band of accomplished players for a one-night-only, live-to-tape recording of a Covid-era "virtual concert" captured onstage at the Hideout, one of Chicago's most beloved intimate venues. The result was a high-quality rock show – raw, sweet, honest and cathartic. Harnessing the punk energy and Sinatra-style sophistication that has made Caterer’s work with the Smoking Popes so enduring, The Hideout Sessions throws a surprising mix of musical ingredients into the power-pop blender, and what comes out is a truly satisfying and savory sonic experience. The album is being released by Chicago's own Pravda Records as a 12" vinyl LP in gatefold sleeve, as well as CD and digital download. www.pravdamusic.com
