Biography

Slum Village: Detroit's Beats from the Block Born from the vibrant energy of Detroit's Conant Gardens, Slum Village is more than just a group - it's a brotherhood bound by friendship and music. Founded in the early 90s by T3, Baatin, and the legendary J Dilla (a.k.a. Jay Dee), they started as "Ssenepod" before blossoming into the iconic name we know today. Their early recordings, crafted in the intimacy of Dilla's basement, pulsated with the raw energy of the Detroit underground. By 1998, their talent landed them a record deal, launching them onto a path of critical acclaim and commercial success. Though J Dilla embarked on a solo journey in 2000, his influence remained deeply ingrained in the group's DNA. T3 and Baatin continued to push boundaries, dropping classic albums like "Trinity" (featuring the hit "Tainted") and "Detroit Deli" (boasting the Kanye West-produced "Selfish"). Joined by Grammy-nominated producer Young RJ in 2009, T3 has ensured the group's legacy continues to evolve. Together, they've released albums like "Villa Manifesto" and "YES," the latter featuring Dilla's posthumous production. Today, Slum Village remains a revered name in Detroit hip-hop. With over 12 years together, T3 and Young RJ honor the group's original vision while infusing it with fresh energy and infectious enthusiasm. Their latest single, "Request," proves they're still pushing boundaries and captivating audiences worldwide.
