Biography

Born in 1993, Liam Grogan is a composer from Bristol. Having graduated in 2016 with a First-class Bachelors in Music, Liam Grogan was awarded the Raymond Warren Prize for Composition and the University of Bristol Undergraduate Prize for Composition. In the same year, his piece Miniature #4 won a competition to be performed and recorded by the founder of the Phasma-Music Ensemble and international flautist Iwona Glinka in Athens. In 2017 Liam was a finalist at the KLK New Music Shostakovich Competition, having his work #2 (for String Quartet) performed at Lviv Philharmonic in Lviv, Ukraine. In this year Liam also received the Raymond Warren Prize for Composition for a second time in record of his achievement during his post-graduate studies at the University of Bristol. In February 2018, he was awarded a Distinction for the completion of his MA in Music under the tutelage of Prof. John Pickard. Currently, he is attending the University of Manchester where is undertaking a Ph.D. with Dr. Kevin Malone. His research is in how combinations of Music and Theatre can be used to convey political ideas in concert music.
