Sid Griffin is a multi-faceted musician via guitar, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica plus he is a published author, and a veteran witty broadcaster though best known as founder of legendary Americana band The Long Ryders. His solo album The Journey From Grape To Raisin appeared Sept 27, 2024 to great and truly warm reviews, its songs successfully debuted at that summer's Glastonbury Festival. An eighth-generation Kentuckian who resides in England, Sid has enjoyed success with his Million Dollar Bash book on Bob Dylan’s The Basement Tapes, his script for the documentary Gram Parsons; Grievous Angel, and his groundbreaking “alt-bluegrass" band The Coal Porters. Griffin won a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 (Piero Ciampi Award) in Italy, and Sid’s old band the Long Ryders won the Americana Music Association (UK)'s International Trailblazers award in 2022. The Long Ryders last album was September November in 2023 followed by a world tour. Griffin performed on bluegrass mandolin with his acoustic Coal Porters ensemble till their July 2018 demise. (The Coal Porters periodically regroup for gigs.) Previous to his latest solo album, The Journey From Grape To Raisin, Sid’s third release was The Trick Is To Breathe, which Britain’s Uncut magazine made Americana Album Of The Month. His first solo album was Little Victories in 1997, which featured Billy Bragg singing an unreleased Phil Ochs song, Sailors and Soldiers. Sid’s second solo CD was As Certain as Sunrise in 2005.
