The Italian pianist Giovanni Guidi is well-known on the European and World Wide scene as a bandleader and a frequent sideman for trumpeter Enrico Rava. As a soloist and an accompanist, his touch is subtle but technically deft, whether laying out angular solos (based on everything from slow, rubato interludes to fleet, high-register, aria-styled flights of fancy) to hard-comping, swinging grooves. Guidi's debut album as a leader, Tomorrow Never Knows, came in 2006 at the age of 21. Released on the Venus label, it was followed by acclaimed recordings on Cam Jazz. In 2010, he released his debut big-band offering, The Unknown Rebel Band, modelled on the influences of Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, the Freedom Now Suite band of Max Roach, and the Carla Bley Big Band. His first New York recording, We Don't Live Here Anymore, came in 2011, with Petrella , Cleaver, Thomas Morgan, and Blake. In 2013 Guidi signed with ECM. His debut for the label was a trio date recorded with Morgan and João Lobo, the album is City of Broken Dreams. He released 3 more album as leader produced by Manfred Eicher: Avec Les Temps (2019) with Morgan, Lobo; Ida Lupino (2016) with Petrella, Sclavis, Cleaver; This is the day (2015) with Morgan, Lobo. Ojos de Gato the last album record by Guidi marks the return with the Cam Jazz. His a tribute to Gato Barbieri born out of conversations Guidi had with Laura Barbieri and his father Mario. With Guidi, Petrella, Brandon Lewis, Taylor, Lopez, Mela.
