Biography

The Loch Ness Mouse started in 1992 as part of the C86-guitarpop scene in Oslo, after brothers Jørn and Ole Johannes Åleskjær came into town from the rural district of Høland (Hayland). The band soon started to develop their music, and would incorporate elements of jazz and soul over the next couple of decades ("The Learning Years"), before finally arriving with the self-titled album in 2016. The album signed them a deal with renowned Japanese label P-Vine, secured them a small hit with the track "The Cherry Blossom in Japan" and was musically a return to pop. Reviewers often make comparisons to the so-called sophistipop of bands like Style Council, Everything But The Girl or Prefab Sprout to describe them, but the follow up album "II" from 2019, was a search for more atmospheric and patiently developing moods, inspired by Talk Talk and The Blue Nile. The album is meant as a companion to the more poppy precursor from 2016. The trilogy will be concluded with "III" in 2022, the band's 30 year anniversary album, including the same line-up through all three albums and over the last decade. Brothers Jørn and Ole Johannes Åleskjær have also written the material for Gary Olson's debut album on Tapete Records (2020) and worked with a lot of other artists, like The Hepburns, Tenant From Zero, Serena Maneesh, I Was A King and Elvira Nikolaisen, to mention a few.
