Britta Phillips came to prominence in the mid-1980s as the singing voice of JEM, the title character of cartoon TV series “JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS”. With her husband, Dean Wareham, she is a member of the band LUNA (bass guitar) and one half of the duo DEAN & BRITTA. The couple composed film scores for “THE SQUID & THE WHALE” and “MISTRESS AMERICA” (Noah Baumbach & Greta Gerwig) and were commissioned by the Warhol Museum to score short films shot by Andy Warhol in the 1960s as a multimedia live show as well as an album, 13 MOST BEAUTIFUL: SONGS FOR ANDY WARHOL’S SCREEN TESTS. Phillips is also a film, television, and voice actress, including a co-starring role in the 1988 movie, SATISFACTION (Julia Roberts, Liam Neeson), multiple voice acting roles on the Adult Swim stop-animation TV series MORAL OREL and MARY SHELLEY’S FRANKENHOLE, and cameos in director Noah Baumbach films, FRANCIS HA and WHITE NOISE.
