Biography

Gregg Bendian is widely recognized as a musical innovator both in the realms of percussion and composition. Equally at home in jazz, rock, and classical settings, Gregg has collaborated with some of the strongest personalities in contemporary music, including Cecil Taylor, Derek Bailey, Gavin Bryars, Ornette Coleman, John Zorn, Roscoe Mitchell, Evan Parker, William Parker, Mike Keneally, Todd Rundgren and Jan Hammer. He is drummer, founder and leader of the Mahavishnu Project a repertory ensemble interpreting the music of John McLaughlin & The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Gregg is on the faculty of William Paterson University of New Jersey, and frequently conducts interviews with jazz and classical masters for the Yale Oral History of American Music archive. A New Yorker in origin, Gregg has been a stalwart presence on the Los Angeles music scene for over 30 years, with bands such as Bone Structure (with Jeff Gauthier, G.E. Stinson, and Steuart Liebig, his GREGG BENDIAN PROJECT with Vinny Golia, Paul Smoker, and Mark Dresser as well as various incarnations of his ensemble Gregg Bendian's Interzone, featuring Nels Cline & Alex Cline.
